How many of you have ever witnessed a situation where a solution to a business problem relied solely on the peoples promise to “fix it and keep it under control”?
How many times has this promise failed to deliver?
Is the trust no longer good enough?
Let’s examine the following assumptions (dare I say facts?):
- Emotions drive peoples behavior. That may result in a different approach to judgement, decision making and implementation
- So-called “human factor” will always introduce a variation to the process
- Lack of structured approach leads to miscommunication, lack of responsibility and accountability and eventually poor results
One would argue that there is no logical justification for putting trust over the system approach. And yet many of us do. Here is why.
- Our relationships are built on trust. Simple as that.
- Emotions have always been and always will be a key part of our human nature.
- Rapport can only be built with a certain degree of emotional involvement
How many innovations and great business decisions started with trust between people?
How many times could logic have led to a complete failure of an idea pursued by a visionary?
How many time people who “broke free” from the system approach delivered something extraordinary?
Finding the equilibrium
This is by no means to say that we should ditch the systems and go hurrah with freewheeling. Today, we talk a lot about systems, automation, AI etc. Great level of media attention is given to products and solutions.
Let’s not forget who is at the centre of all innovation, technology and progress – it’s us – people.
Next time someone comes to you with the idea that challenges the status quo, give them a chance. Give them the benefit of your trust.
How do you find the right balance between trust and system approach? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
Have a fantastic day folks!
