If you are reading this post than You might have been directly or indirectly involved in the ISO System(s) implementation, management or both. Or maybe it’s new to you, and you need some guidance and support. I would be more than happy to share with you my experience, tips and lessons I’ve learnt so You can be successful and add value to your business.
Implementation of ISO systems has been practised for tens of years across all types of businesses known to man. There are several measurable benefits that these systems can help you deliver. There is, however, a small catch.
ISO systems must serve the business not another way around.
Let make it absolutely clear. You are not dealing with the black art that requires hundreds of hours of training and multiple levels of certifications. “We are happy to confirm that so-and-so has attended the ISO… blah, blah, blah…”. I am sure some big boys from the consultancy world have been knocking on your door for some considerable time now…
ISO System is a simple framework with a limited number of formal requirements that need to be applied. It’s nothing more than a methodological implementation of best practices presented in the Standard.
Today I am giving you a chance to save on the cost of training.
Today You can follow a live case study of ISO System implementation.
Tomorrow you can apply this knowledge to your business and thrive on success.
In the series of posts, I will share with you the entire process of ISO 50001 implementation. Wait! Before you say “oh, I need something about ISO 9001… I need to look somewhere else”. Let me assure you that the implementation strategy is exactly the same across all ISO Systems. Don’t let people fool you by saying different. I have been there, and I can give you my word that once you understand the principle of one ISO System, you will successfully apply your knowledge to other standards.
Why am I sharing this with you?
I have been tasked with the implementation of ISO 50001:2011 (Energy Management System) in a medium-sized manufacturing organisation. Certification body (I will call them Big Boys as they are quite large in the UK) has been chosen, and the contract has been signed before the great news of the exciting project have been announced to me. So here I am taking the challenge by the horns.
Every ISO standard emphasises the need for training and competence. People automatically look what’s available on the market. What is the cost and why it’s so expensive? When can we send someone and why there is no venue near us? Stop! There is an easier way to approach that.
Knowledge should be delivered in the most approachable and straightforward way. I believe that following someone’s journey of ISO system implementation does just that.
Free knowledge sharing and collaboration is what makes people great.
Follow my process of ISO 50001 implementation and make your own, educated decision on how your next challenge with Standards will play out.
The plan for the next weeks is simple. I will share the entire ISO 50001:2011 implementation and certification process in the series of five posts. Here is how it’s going to work:
Introduction
You are here! Well done. You’ve made your first major step towards successful ISO implementation. The scene has been set so we can get down to business.
Gap Analysis and initial action plan
You will learn how to compare all ISO 50001 requirements against the current business situation. You will see how to identify strong points and how to list all deficiencies. We will define the next steps in the form of an action plan. The business will be prepared for the Stage 1 audit.
Stage 1 audit
So the Big Boys have visited our site. I am looking forward to receiving tonnes of useful feedback. That will give us something to work with, in preparation for the Stage 2 audit. This is the positive scenario I am hoping for. Unfortunately, my experience with the Big Boys tells me that all options are possible. I promise to share whatever happens so you can learn on my example.
Stage 2 audit
This will be the critical part of the process. The Big Boys are going to audit three different sites in the two countries. I am sure there will be a lot to discuss.
Post-certification feedback
Last but not list I will be sharing my reflection on the entire ISO 50001 implementation and certification process. What has gone well and where we could have done better.
Extra stuff for You
On the top of all information and insights from my ISO 50001 challenge, You will also get access to crucial documents used in the process. I will share all of them for FREE so you can kick-start your journey.
