What has recently happened in the world of European football can quickly become a case study for all of us on business and personal level.

This article is not about football so please bear with me.

Last week two English teams won their places in the Champions League* final. This wouldn’t be anything worth mentioning to non-football fans, but the circumstances surrounding both games deserve attention.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool lost their first games big time and were the underdogs in the second leg. Their chances of winning the spot in the finals were mere 4%. No one believed that the players could come back from the dead and beat their opponents. Statistical data, opinions of experts and even fans did not give too much hope to what later was described as nights of miracles. Yes, as you may have guessed both English teams trashed favourites against the odds.

Dedication, heart and confidence brought unexpected results. Unexpected by observers and analytics, not the players.

We face challenges every day.

It is up to us to decide how we are going to make the most of them. If there is something for all of us to learn from these guys is this:

• Enjoy your life,
• Be passionate about what you are doing,
• Focus on the ultimate goals,
• Don’t plan every little step you’re going to take,
• Take risks and learn,
• Be yourself,
• Don’t follow the crowd and trust your judgement,
• Play football – I am joking 😉
